Purnia is a small town located in the Purnia district of Bihar. Bounded by Araria district in the north, Bhagalpur and Katihar districts in the south, West Dinajpur district of West Bengal and Kishanganj in the east and Madhepur district in the west, Purnia is one of the largest producers of poultry and egg in Bihar.
Purnia is famous for its oldest temple dedicated to local deity MATA PURAN DEVI. It is believed that the city got its name from that temple only. Purnia is also known for its uniquely designed Ramakrishna Mission where Durga Puja in the month of April is celebrated with due devotion and honour. The other major tourist attractions in Purnia are Kajha Kothi (picnic spot) and Rajendra Bal Udyan, ancient Darbar (Palace) of Raja Kalanand Singh, Kala Bhawan, Ma Pooran Devi Mandir and Kali Bari Mandir
