The Temple of Shri Mahadev is the most ancient temple of Goa located at a place called Tambdi Suria, which is about 65kms from the capital city of Panjim. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, it is the reminiscent of the temples at Aihole in neighboring Karnataka. Shri Mahadev Temple is set at the foot of the Anmod Ghat surrounded with dense forests and it is the only specimen of Kadamba-Yadava architecture in basalt stone preserved and available in Goa. The interiors and the sidewalls of the temple are adorned with exquisite carvings and floral motifs. The festival of Mahashivratri is celebrated with full religious fervor and gaiety at Shri Mahadev Temple by the devotees.
