Shri Chandranath Temple stands on the top of a high hill called Chandranath, Paroda, Quepem. The temple is dedicated to Shri Bhutnath or Chandreshwar whom the Bhoja kings regarded as the titular deity. Bhoja dynasty ruled South Goa before the Christian till the middle of 8th century. They named their capital as Chandrapur after the deity.
Also known as, Shri Chandreshwar Mandir, the temple houses a huge Shiva lingam carved out from the rock, which oozes water on full moon night. The temple is so designed that Shiva lingam receives moonlight on every full moon. Surrounded by lush green forests, Shri Chandranath temple offers superb views of the town. The temple has an ancient chariot, which is renowned for its exquisite woodcarvings.
